Young and promising film producer Danny Byrd has made a lot of mistakes, but this time he really is innocent. It was his longtime friend and partner, J.R., who stole the money from the film company's escrow fund. When he flies to California to confront J.R., however, Danny is the one who is arrested and charged. Both were in the foster care system; both served time for a bank robbery as preteens. But Danny has changed his life. L. A. lawyer Megan Pierce, who has to overcome her own obstacles, comes to his rescue, backed by a Chinese investor, and Danny agrees, in turn, to rescue a floundering television project with no script, stars, or location and only weeks left before its airing. When Danny discovers Emma, a teenage saxophonist, he thinks he's found his star. And he and Megan may have found more than a lawyer-client relationship. Although the movie-production details get a little tangled, this tale of redemption, faith, and love will enchant Bunn's (Moondust Lake, 2019) many fans.--Candace Smith Copyright 2019 Booklist
