Library Cards

Library cards are free for residents of Gillespie County who are six years of age or older. For persons under sixteen, we will need to see their parent's ID.

Residents of adjoining counties (Kerr, Llano, Blanco, Kendall, Kimble, Mason) can get a library card for $20 a year (as of January 1st, 2025).

Temporary residents of Gillespie County (three months or more) can get a library card for $52 for the year (as of January 1st, 2025).

Patrons can get their library card at Pioneer Memorial Library (115 West Main St). They will need to show a valid picture ID with their current address. If the patron does not have a picture ID or their ID does not have an updated address, we will need to see a document with their correct address on it.

This kind of document can be:

  • Mortgage, lease, or rental agreement
  • Utility or cell phone bill
  • Bank statement
  • Auto insurance
  • Postmarked envelope

Patrons can either bring in physical copies of these documents or show them to us digitally on their phone.

Library cards expire after one year, in which the patron needs to come into the library with their ID to get it renewed.

If a patron loses their library card, they can get it replaced for free. They just need to come to the library with a valid photo ID or one of the documents above.

Materials & Check-Out

With a library card, a patron will have the ability to check-out materials from Pioneer Memorial Library, such as:

  • Books
  • Magazines
  • DVDs
  • Books on CD

Patrons will also have access to materials on Libby using their library card number and PIN.

Books, magazines, and books on CD can be checked out for two weeks (fourteen days). If the due date arrives and the material is not on hold for another patron, it will be auto-renewed for another two weeks. DVDs can be checked out for one week (seven days) and maintain the same auto-renew process. Materials can also be renewed at the circulation desk or through a patron's online account.

There are no fines for late materials (as of January 1st, 2025) unless the material is an Interlibrary Loan. If the material is lost or damaged, the patron can either pay the cost of the item or replace it with a brand new copy.

The patron will receive a paper receipt or have one emailed to them at check-out with the due date. If they lose this receipt, they may find the due date by accessing their online account or calling the library.

Computer Use & Printing

We have several computers for patrons to use at the library. There is one computer available for internet access in the young people's room downstairs, and there are six computers available in the adult's room upstairs.

Patrons will need their library card in order to access the computers, as it will ask for their full library card number. If a person is a tourist or guest to Gillespie County, they may receive a guest pass with an unexpired photo ID.

Computer use is limited to one hour per day. However, patrons can have this time extended through the computer they are using or by asking a staff member.

Some computers are strictly for using our catalog which does not require sign-in nor have time limits. There are four in the young people's room and three in the adult's room.

All patron computers (NOT catalog computers) have internet access and word-processing capabilities.

We also have free, unlimited WiFi which can be accessed from patron's personal devices.

Patrons can print any documents as needed. Printing is $0.15 per page in black-and-white and one-sided. Right now, we do not offer colored printing. When printing from a library computer, the patron will simply go to print their document as normal and pick up their prints at the circulation desk.

If the patron has their documents to print on their phone, they can email the documents to library@gillespiecounty.org and pick up their prints at the circulation desk.

We also provide a copier downstairs, which is $0.15 per page to print.
