We are now able to offer Wi-Fi hotspots! Users (ages 18 and older) with a Portland Public Library card that has been active for at least 30 days may borrow a FREE hotspot. The loan period for hotspots is 7 days, and if there is no wait list, they may be renewed for an additional 7-day period. Hotspot holds and check-outs are limited to one per household. For more information, come by the library or call us at 615-325-2279.

Children’s Programs
February 1st: Read with a Dog. Schedule an appointment (between 2:30 & 4:30). Call 615-325-2279 to schedule.
February 18th: Movie Matinee – Join us for a showing of Strange World from 10-12. A light snack & water will be served.
LAPSIT – FOR KIDS UNDER 3 (Friday mornings at 10:30am)
This program is for infants and toddlers under age 3 and their caregivers (older siblings are allowed to attend/participate when necessary). The program lasts around 30 minutes. It includes books/stories, lots of songs, nursery rhymes, and fingerplays.
February 3rd – It’s Elmo’s birthday! Books about Elmo & his Sesame St. friends. Plus, music and rhymes!
February 10th – Love & Valentine’s Day is today’s theme. Stories, songs, rhymes, & stickers!
February 17th – It’s all about nursery rhymes today (popular & obscure). Songs, rhymes & stickers!
February 24th – Caterpillars & Butterflies! Stories, rhymes, songs, and, of course, stickers at the end.
PRESCHOOL STORYTIME for 3 to 5 year olds (Wednesday mornings at 10:30am)
February 1st – It’s Robinson Crusoe Day. Join us for a pretend boat trip, a rainstorm, and a CRASH landing on a desert island!
February 8th – A little early, but Valentine’s stories & songs. A Valentine’s game, and then supplies to make a Valentine Card.
February 15th – It’s Hippo Day – not exactly an ocean animal, but Hippo books and activities!
February 22nd – This week, an ocean animal – Jellyfish! Jellyfish stories, songs, activities & a craft.
AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM for Kindergarten & Older (Wednesday Afternoons at 3:30pm)
February 1st– STEAM Book Club – chapter 7 & 8 (Alice in Wonderland). Rotation patterns (math) and building a house of cards (engineering).
February 8th – Guest Reader, Mr. Chip Arnold, with a Valentine Story. Play a Valentine game, and create a valentine card or two.
February 15th- STEAM Book Club – Chapter 9 & 10 (Alice in Wonderland). Make an origami cat and invisible ink, plus take home info.
February 22nd– We didn’t observe Robinson Crusoe Day on the 1st, but today our theme is surviving on a desert island! How would you survive? Discussions and ideas, plus tasting a real coconut.
February 4th: Take your child to the Library Celebration/Valentine’s Day!
Our hours are 9am to 1pm, and we encourage you to bring your child to the library any time during the day. We will have a “hunt” (find the hidden object and win a small prize), computer stations set up to highlight TN Electronic Library, and a website (DaybyDayTN) with activities geared toward preschoolers. Between 10 & 12, we will have random stories, activities, science demo, and arts/craft projects.
Fellowship of the Teens for Middle and High Schoolers (Thursdays 4:00-5:00 pm)
February 2nd – Bingo
We will meet in the community room for a few fun games of Bingo! Prizes will be awarded.
February 9th – Celebrate Valentine’s Day
We’re going to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early. We will be doing crafts and having some Valentine’s snacks!
February 16th – Card Games
Let’s pull out some old favorites and maybe a few new ones. Feel free to bring a card game from home to play, too.
February 23rd – Movie Night (4-5:30pm)
We are taking suggestions on a movie! Get your requests in asap. Popcorn and water will be served!
ADULTS
Bingo
Every Tuesday @ 1:00 in the Community Room - Join in the fun of friendly competition as Ms. Vicki calls out the numbers, and the race is on to yell out “BINGO.” There will be candy and snack prizes for the winner. The last game of the day is the “Cover All” where the winner walks away with a gift card that can be used locally.
Genealogy Club
Saturday, February 4th @ 10:00am in the Community Room – Join Paula to celebrate the Portland Genealogy club beginning its 6th year! Donuts and water will be served before heading out to The State Library & Archives at 10:30 sharp. Call the library for more information.
Veteran’s Representative
Wednesday February 1st 1:00 to 3:00pm in a Study Room
A rep from the Sumner County Veteran’s Service Office will be available to help any veteran or veteran’s spouse with questions or filling out of forms. No appointment necessary. First come, first serve basis.
Page Turners Book Club
Thursday, February 6th 11:30 – 1:00pm in the Community Room - Ms. Patricia leads this month’s gathering in a discussion on R.J. Palacio’s Pony.
Adult Make and Take Craft Time
Tuesday, February 21st 2:30 – 3:30pm in the Community Room - Sign up to make a craft with us this month. There is a limit of 12 on a first come basis.
