Jennifer Freeman grew up reading her way through the shelves of the McMillan Memorial Library’s Children’s Room. She spent so much time at the library that the Branch Manager decided to put her to work as a youth volunteer and resident Library Pet Trainer.
After graduating from West Rusk High School, Jenn moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas at Austin where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Youth & Community Studies as well as a Master of Information Studies. While completing her Library degree, she worked as a Teaching Assistant for one of UT’s Children’s Literature classes and completed an internship with Austin Public Library’s Youth Services Department. After completing her degree, APL hired Jenn as a Teen Services Librarian at the Carver Branch, her library home for six years. During her time in Austin, Jenn also completed two Associate degrees in Hospitality Management as well as a certificate in Pastry Arts. Jenn moved back to East Texas in June 2015 and was hired as a Librarian for McMillan Memorial Library in September 2015. She loves programming for all ages & can be seen getting silly with the library’s youngest patrons during storytime.
While not providing witty commentary to the other McMillan Memorial Library staff, Jenn can be found baking, cross-stitching (most likely accompanied by Lily, the snuggle cat), donning striped overalls to help on the family farm, or hiking. Jenn’s favorite Dewey numbers are 395 & 746.4.
