Young kitchen phenom, blogger, and bestselling cookbook author Gerard (Half Baked Harvest Every Day) is back with this new collection focused on comfort food favorites. This book will be welcome as readers enter colder months and want dishes that stick to the ribs and feed hungry football fans. Page layout is familiar but improved, as the right-hand corner supplies everything cooks need to know before getting started. Most recipes fall into one of these categories: less than 10 ingredients, one pan, 30 minutes or less, or vegetarian/gluten free. Recipes include classic Midwest recreations that satisfy casserole needs using fresh ingredients instead of canned soup. The veg chapter is decadent, with plenty of dairy included. Other recipes, especially in the meaty chapters, are cozier than they are quick, but the time is worth it for a good weekend dinner. With a little bit of everything, Gerard's latest will be a hit with fans and those looking for hearty fare. VERDICT This collection of recipes is as comforting as a warm blanket and will provide cooks much inspiration for game days, family feasts, and even the occasional rainy weeknight.—Sarah Tansley
