Borrowing

See Services to Non-Residential Students tab for additional information on policies and services for non-residential students.

Borrowing privileges are extended to current Randall University students, faculty, and staff.  A current Randall University I.D. must be presented at check-out.

Loan Periods - General circulating books can be checked out for two weeks to current students with one renewal.  Graduate students may check out books for 45 days with one renewal.  A total of twelve items may be checked out to one patron.  Return the materials in a timely manner as other students may need them.

Reserve materials can be checked out for 2 hours, 1 day, or 1 week, depending on the length of check out time the instructor places on the item.

Reference materials, audio-visual items and magazines cannot be checked out.

Renewals - General circulating books can be renewed through the “My Account” link.  The Patron/Alternate ID Number is the barcode number on your Randall University ID and the PIN is “saints”You are allowed one renewal for each item.  Then the item must be returned and re-shelved to give other students access to the item before you can check the item out again.

Overdues - Overdue materials have fines according to the type of material.  Overdue notices are sent by email.  These notices are a courtesy, and failure to receive such a notice will NOT reduce or cancel fines.  Failure to pay fines or return books will restrict you from borrowing library materials.

Fines - Books not returned on the due date will be charged a fine of $ .25 per day the library is open.  Reserve items will be charged a fine of $.50 per hour per item the library is open.  The maximum fine is $5.00 per item for general circulating books and $10.00 per item for Reserve items.  Any student who accumulates fines in excess of $10.00 during the semester will be placed on “Library Restriction” until the fine is paid.

Library Restriction - Library restriction is a two step process.  A student will be Restricted in the library database during the semester if they have items checked out or fines that have reached $10.00.  They will not be allowed to checkout any items from the library until the items are returned and/or the fines are paid.

The second step occurs on the last day of Finals. If checked out items are not returned by 4pm on the last day of Finals, then the maximum fine is applied for that item.  Names of the students are turned into the Registrar’s office for a Hold to be placed on their account if they have books checked out and/or fines not paid. Official transcripts will not be released and the student cannot enroll or complete enrollment for the following semester.

Lost Materials - For items lost or damaged beyond repair, the student has to pay the price of the book plus a $20.00 cataloging charge.  If the price of the item cannot be verified, a price of $25.00 will be assigned to the book plus the cataloging charges. The librarian will repair books at the student’s expense.

Book Drop - When the library is open, please return the books to the Circulation Desk.  If the library is closed, please use the book drop located on the left wall outside the library doors.
