The Children and Youth Services Department has books for all age levels, as well as eBooks, Playaway Audiobooks, books with cassettes, board books, holiday books, chapter books, classic books and periodicals. The non-fiction collection has an assortment of books on famous people, geography, history, nature, religion, science, sports, and much more.
Elementary School Age Patrons: In the Juvenile Collection, juvenile patrons can find an assortment of fiction classic storybooks aimed at Elementary to Middle School aged children.
High School Age Patrons: In the Young Adult Collection, young patrons can find a variety of Fiction and Non-Fiction books aimed toward teens and young adults.
Periodicals: The Juvenile and Young Adult periodical collection has a total of 22 magazine titles aimed at children and young adults. The library's Teen Reading Area is located right next to the public water fountain.
Reading Lists: The Robert J. Kleberg Public Library currently subscribes to the following reading lists: ALA Notable Books for Children (Current) - ALA Best Books for Young Adults (Current) - Caldecott Medal Winners (Current) - Newbery Medal Winners (Current) - Lone Star Reading List (Current) - Texas Bluebonnet Award (Current)
Toddler Storytime Hour: The Children's Services Department has a "story-time" every thursday at 9:00 a.m. that includes a variety of stories, songs, crafts, and sensory games for all pre-school children.
Annual Summer Program: The Children's Services Department also has a "Summer Reading and Activities Program" with crafts, games, prizes, story-time, and an end-of-the-summer party with educational entertainment.
