Library Cards: Library cards are issued free of charge to residents of Fluvanna County and surrounding counties (Albemarle, Buckingham, Cumberland, Goochland and Louisa). A parental or guardian signature is required when children under the age of 18 apply for a library card. Library cards are valid for three years and may be renewed at the patron’s request at the end of three years. Replacement cards are $1.
Library material checkout:
Patrons are asked to present a valid library card to borrow Library material.
New books are loaned for 14 days and may be renewed for two additional 14-day periods. *
All other books and magazines are loaned for 28 days and may be renewed for two additional 28-day periods. *
Book and music CDs are loaned for 28 days and may be renewed twice. *
DVDs are loaned for 14 days and may be renewed for two additional 14-day periods. *
DVDs may only be borrowed by patrons 18 years old or older. Each adult cardholder is limited to 10 DVDs.
A date due card or sticker is attached to each item borrowed.
Patrons may call the Library to renew borrowed items before or after the item is due. If the Library is not open, patrons may leave a message on the Library’s answering machine
*If a book or other item is on the Hold List, only one renewal is granted.
Library Fines:
The fine for books and CDs is $ .10 per day. The maximum fine is $5.00 for each item.
The fine for DVDs, and videogames is $.50 per day. The maximum fine is $5.00 for each item.
There is a one day grace day on fines if they item is returned before the end of the day after it is due.
Fines are not accumulated on days that the Library is closed.
Library patrons owing $20.00 or more in fines are not permitted to take out any additional items.
Library patrons will be charged a replacement fee for lost or damaged items.
Other Things to Know:
There are two book return boxes near the parking lot side of the Library. All library materials may be returned in the book return box, except puzzles!
The Library is not responsible for any damage to the patron’s electronic equipment when using the Library’s CDs or DVDs.
Fluvanna County Public Library Meeting Room Use Policy
The primary purpose of the meeting room at the Fluvanna County Public Library is the provide facilities for Library related activities. Needs of the Library for use of the meeting room takes precedence over use by outside groups.
As a community service, the Library makes its meeting room available to local organizations and government agencies for private meetings or programs of an educational, civic, or cultural nature, that are open to the public. The only fundraising events that may be held are those benefiting the Library.
The rooms may not be used; for reasons that are purely social, are not available for the benefit of private individual, commercial concerns, or for worship services. The fact that a group is permitted to meet in the Library does not in any way constitute an endorsement of the group’s policies or beliefs.
A. To reserve the meeting room the person in charge must be 18 years of age and an adult leader shall be present at all times and be responsible for the supervision of any group of children under the age of 18 using the meeting room.
B. A $25 deposit will be required for use of the meeting room and will be returned after it has been determined that no charges for cleaning or damage were required.
C. A written application form must be on file at the Library. Applications will be considered and, if accepted, will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Library will not accept forms more than three (3) months in advance. Conditional reservations may be accepted farther in advance with the understanding that the needs of the Library may result in the rescheduling or canceling of the tentative booking. Applications should be renewed with each new calendar year. Additional dates within the calendar year may be added to the initial application and information verified with each new date request.
D. Normal hours of availability are:
Monday & Tuesday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Wednesday & Thursday 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Other times, to include Sundays and holidays may be scheduled upon special request and approval by the Library Director.
E. Light refreshments may be served, provided that permission is requested on the written application. Alcoholic beverages may NOT be served on Library premises. Groups are allowed to utilize the kitchenette, but are responsible for their own supplies (cups, napkins, etc.). Groups are responsible for cleaning up after their meeting is finished and leaving the room in the same condition that they found it in. If special cleaning of the room is needed for any reason the group may be charged.
F. Smoking is NOT permitted.
G. The Library will provide chairs and tables only. Other equipment may be available upon request. If the Library does not own the equipment needed, the group is responsible for providing the needed equipment. The Library cannot be responsible for returning the equipment borrowed from another source. The Library will not provide storage for any materials or equipment.
H. Groups may arrange furniture to best suit their needs. No extra furniture may be moved into the meeting room for a meeting. All furniture should be returned to how it was originally found.
I. If a meeting is postponed or cancelled, the Library should be notified immediately. In case of snow or other emergency, the Library reserves the right to cancel meeting room reservations.
J. Groups are responsible for maintaining order, for compensating the library for damages of the premises, equipment or furnishings that occur during their use, as determined by the Fluvanna Library, and for the safekeeping of any private property brought into the library. Groups shall agree to pay for all repair costs within 10 days.
K. Library-sponsored program receive first priority for meeting room use. Other applications will be considered for specific dates and times only if no library-sponsored program is planned.
L. The name and address of the Library cannot be used as the official address or headquarters of an organization.
M. The Library reserves the right to limit a group from the meeting room for disorderly conduct or conduct that interferes with the operation of the Library.
N. The Library reserves the right to dismiss a group from the meeting room for disorderly conduct or conduct that interferes with the operation of the Library.
O. During a meeting or program that is open to the public, no admission fee or donation requests are permitted. No items may be sold unless for the profit of the Library or approved author visit. However, groups may charge a reasonable fee to recover the cost of materials, handouts, craft making supplies, refreshments, etc. Arrangements for any such fee have to be approved at the time of application.
P. The Library Board of Trustees reserves the right to amend these regulations at any time. The Library Director, in his/her sole & absolute discretion, may waive any meeting room regulation and may deny or cancel any application for reservation of meeting room space.
Revocation and Refusal of Authorization for Use
Use of the library meeting rooms may be prohibited or terminated at any time if the activity or conduct planned or occurring in the facility is or is deemed to be disruptive, or interferes with library patron use of the library facilities for library purposes or is disruptive or interferes with library staff in their service to patrons. The privilege of using Library meeting rooms will not be granted or will be revoked if the activities or intended activities of the meeting room users negatively impact normal operations in the following ways:
• The meeting is conducted in a noisy, disorderly or inflammatory manner.
• The size or nature of the meeting present personal safety or building security issues, or creates an undue parking demand on library lots.
• The activities of meeting room users disrupt or will be disruptive to other library patrons use of the library facilities or distract or will be distractive for library staff from the performance of their duties.
