  • Ancestry.com - In-Library Access Only
    • A genealogy database, providing access to U.S. and United Kingdom census data, ship's logs and passenger indexes, vital records and social security death index records, WWI draft registration cards, maps, genealogy reference books, and more. Available only on Library computers.
  • AtoZdatabases
    • A collection several different databases. It provides reference and marketing information to over 30 million business profiles and 220 million residents. More than just a simple phone book directory, this database can be used to not only find friends and relatives but also to create mailing lists, search for sales leads, market research, employment opportunities. Updated biweekly, information can be emailed, printed or downloaded. Download app for iOS devices at the iTunes store.

    • The MasterFILE Complete is designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for more than 2,000 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1922.
  • Find It Virginia
    • A collection of databases that provide access to resources such as newspapers, magazine and journal articles, and books such as encyclopedias. Materials are available for all age ranges and interests. A Virginia public library card is the only requirement to use these resources. It is supported by federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Provided through a partnership with the Library of Virginia.

Fold3 Library Edition by Ancestry provides access to U.S. military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served. Content is from the Revolutionary War forward, with millions of records from world-class archives, many exclusively available to this database. The Fold3 name comes from a traditional flag folding ceremony in which the third fold is made in honor and remembrance of veterans who served in defense of their country and to maintain peace throughout the world.

  • Heritage Quest
    • A collection of six data sets of American genealogical sources, including unique primary sources, local and family histories, and finding aids. The collection consists of U.S. Federal Censuses; genealogy and local history books; a periodical source index archive, Revolutionary War records; Freedman’s Bank records; and, the U.S. Congressional Serial set.
  • Just for Kids (Infobase)
    • A collection of kid-safe, advertisement free educational videos.
  • Lexis Advance - In-Library Access Only
    • One of the primary online legal research services for lawyers and legal professionals in the United States. Available for use inside the Library only. Located on a dedicated Public Law Library resource station. The Library's subscription includes legal information for the state of Virginia and Federal level only.
  • Libby (OverDrive)
    • The leading eBook lender and the vendor which helps us offer eBooks and eAudios to our community, and it is the supporting entity behind the “Blue Ridge Download Consortium”, a name perhaps better known to our patrons. Once signed in, patrons can easily browse for eBook and eAudio titles to borrow and enjoy on Windows® and Mac® computers, or on mobile devices like iPhone®, iPad®, Android™, BlackBerry® and Windows Phone. Users can read eBooks on the go with Kindle® (U.S. only), Sony® Reader, NOOK™ and more. Once the lending period ends, titles will automatically expire and return to the collection. There are no late fees.

    • The Magzter platform is available as an app on Apple iOS and Android (Google Play), and a website for browser-based reading. Users can buy their magazines and newspapers on any of the devices/platforms mentioned above and seamlessly port their purchases to any other devices, a feature unique to Magzter. You must get the Magzter LIBRARY app.

    • The Manuals, known as the Merck Manuals in the United States and Canada and MSD Manuals outside the United States and Canada, are one of the world’s most widely used medical information resources. Users may choose between professional and consumer versions.
  • Merck Veterinary Manual
    • Find information on animal health topics, written for the veterinary professional.
  • Online Book Clubs
    • Sign up for one, or several book clubs, depending on what you like to read. Immediately, you will receive a welcome message from us thanking them for joining. The next morning, start receiving your daily "dose of book." We start new books in the clubs on Mondays. Each day for the next week, a little more of the featured book will be emailed to you. By the end of the week, you will have sampled two to three chapters, enough to know if you "just-have-to" finish the book. Choose from these book clubs: Fiction, Romance, Good News, Science Fiction, Mystery, Thriller, Pre-Publication, Classics, Audio Books, Teens, Nonfiction, Business, Authorbuzz, First Look.

    • Read It!™ is designed for middle and high school students and adults who have a basic foundation in English grammar and reading but need adapted reading material for a variety of subjects.
  • Salem Press
    • Database with access to the reference collection MasterPlots, plus other resources devoted to health, science, history, and more.
  • Sanborn Maps
    • The Library’s subscription to ProQuest’s Sanborn Maps, 1867-1970, provides digital access to large-scale maps of Virginia towns and cities. Users have the ability to easily manipulate the maps, magnify and zoom in on specific sections. Digital Sanborn Maps was created from ProQuest's microfilm collection of Sanborn Maps, which were filmed from the Library of Congress' collection. The Library of Congress’ Sanborn collection includes all maps submitted to them through copyright deposit and a set of maps transferred to the Library from the Bureau of the Census. Maps from the Bureau of the Census include corrections issued by the Sanborn Company that were pasted over the original map sheet. Maps acquired through copyright deposit remain in their original form.

    • The Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps Online Checklist provides a searchable database of the fire insurance maps published by the Sanborn Map Company housed in the collections of the Geography and Map Division (of the Library of Congress). The online checklist is based upon the Library's 1981 publication Fire Insurance Maps in the Library of Congress and will be continually updated to reflect new acquisitions.
