Fiction: I Set in 1993 in an Aristide-exiled, military-tyrannized Haiti, the story centers on Paulie, who lives with her grandmother and uncle in a close-knit community. Uncle is secretly building a boat to escape, but Paulie doesn't want things to change. However, the brutal death of a friend galvanizes her into action, and she undertakes two harrowing journeys requiring great courage. A warm, life-affirming book. Horn Rating: Superior, well above average. Reviewed by: mvp (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
