Requests for Reconsideration
Complaints about any material(s) owned by the Greenwood County Library System and part of the Library’s materials collection will be handled as follows:
-
If the user is dissatisfied with an item, he/she will be asked to fill out the Request for Reconsideration form listing the concerns that they have about the item.
-
The form will be forwarded to the Library Director who will review the item(s) in question from the standpoint of the concerns expressed.
-
Options for the Library Director will include but not be limited to explaining why the item will be maintained by the Library in its present location; moving the item to a different department of the Library (ex. from the Children’s Room to the Teen Center); or, removing the item from a display area.
-
The Library Director will send a written response to the user explaining the option chosen, and a copy of the letter will be given to the Chair of the Library’s Board of Trustees for informational purposes.
-
The user may appeal the decision to the Chair of the Library’s Board.
Because of the timeline for response and the amount of staff time that goes into a thoughtful and well-considered reconsideration request, submissions are limited to one per individual per three months. If a title has already been submitted and considered, the decision rendered will remain in place for three years.
