The Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library is currently accepting applications for a library page position.
POSITION: Library page
POSITION SUMMARY: Returns library materials to the shelves after they have been used; maintain the collections in careful order, according to the cataloging system, so that books can be easily retrieved by customers; keeps the collections looking attractive and orderly; assists library assistants with opening and closing procedures; other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISON: Library pages are directly supervised by the Technical Services Supervisor & Children’s Services Supervisor and indirectly by other Adult and Children’s Services staff.
EDUCATION: Must have completed the freshman year of high school
EXPERIENCE: Experience as a school library media center aide or as a library volunteer is preferred
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Knowledge of library organization and the Dewey Decimal system; ability to arrange items in order numerically and alphabetically
• Ability to use a computer to retrieve information
• Initiative and resourcefulness in resolving problems that may arise in the course of daily work
• Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with the public
• Ability to work cooperatively as a team member
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is in a library and, as such, is primarily indoors. This work requires the ability to sit, stand, stoop, stretch, and to lift up to 50 pounds.
Pay is $10.10 per hour. Hours vary - Approximately 6-12 hours per week.
