The Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN) Inc. was founded on 9 March 1947 by the country's foremost experts who had envisaged good nutrition for Filipinos. Dr. Francisco O. Santos, biochemist and faculty of the University of Philippines, was the first elected president of the Association. He led a select group of the country’s pillars of nutrition work in pursuing PAN’s mission to increase national understanding of the country’s nutrition situation and promote action and measures for the nutritional improvement of families, communities and the country as a whole.

A single body of all individuals and institutions interested in supporting efforts directed towards the attainment of proper nutrition of all Filipinos. To reduce, if not eliminate, malnutrition by promoting proper nutrition knowledge and practice and implementing research projects to support food and nutrition programs:

  • To initiate and implement projects in order to advance knowledge on and practices of proper nutrition and optimum health;
  • To promote and establish linkages for local and international collaborations.

Founded in 1998 and registered in Singapore, the AFIC team of scientific, health and communications professionals work in close collaboration with the academic and scientific communities in the region to close the gap between scientific understanding and popular consumer perception on a wide range of food and health topics. AFIC is funded largely by the food, beverage and agricultural industries. AFIC however plays no role in marketing or lobbying on behalf of industry, its products, or ingredients.

  • advance the science and practice of dietetics and associated subjects;

Joanne Larsen is a licensed, registered dietitian with extensive clinical experience in nutrition therapy in hospitals, clinics, mental health and long term care. She has a bachelor's degree in dietetics with a minor in chemistry and a master's degree in nutrition with a minor in counseling. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Society for Nutrition Education.

As the editor for the American Dietetic Association's new online diet manual covering over 70 diseases, Joanne developed a research based nutrition practices manual with patient education materials. It is used by thousands of dietitians in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and private practice. For the Society for Nutrition Education, she has published product review articles in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior.

Ask the Dietitian® website launched July 1995 and maintained by Joanne Larsen is one of the early nutrition websites on the Internet. This website has won many awards. Joanne is often interviewed as a nutrition expert for television, radio, newspaper and magazine nutrition articles.
